In April, we planted the seeds of innovation, inspiration, and imagination. We embraced new ideas, envisioned future possibilities, and grounded ourselves in purpose. As May blooms in full colour, it’s time to realize what’s possible when you commit to intentional action.
Growth is beautiful—but it isn’t always easy. Like nature, transformation has messy, muddy, and uncertain stages. Becoming MO’re—whether in your health, leadership, or personal life—demands energy, resilience, and mental strength.
I’ve been feeling this deeply myself. Behind the momentum of growth, there are moments of struggle, fatigue, and emotional challenge. And I know I’m not alone. That’s why I want to talk openly this month about a vital part of health that often goes unspoken: our mental wellbeing.
May is Canada’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to break stigma and lean into practices that support a healthy mind. It’s also the perfect moment to MO’ve your mind—and your body—toward better health.
MO’vement is Medicine
Physical movement is one of the most powerful tools we have to support mental health. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, regular exercise can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve mood, boost self-esteem, and even sharpen memory and thinking. It doesn’t take hours of training—just consistent, intentional movement.
Research published in The Lancet Psychiatry found that people who exercised regularly had 43% fewer days of poor mental health than those who didn’t. Even walking or jogging for 30 minutes a few times a week can lead to measurable mental health benefits.
When we move our bodies, we release feel-good chemicals like endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin—our brain’s natural mood elevators. Movement also helps regulate our nervous system, improves sleep, and creates a sense of agency and empowerment.
As I often say:
“MO’ve every day—for your body, your brain, and your being.”
This Month’s MO’ment: Lighting Up the Brain

Mo’s MOVES for Mental Wellness
Here are five simple Mo-approved MOVES you can integrate into your daily life to protect and strengthen your mental health:
M – Mind Your Breath: Take 3-6 deep belly breaths when you feel overwhelmed. This calms your nervous system instantly. And use 3 counts to breathe in and 6 counts to exhale. The pace of your breath is even more important than the number of breaths you take.
O – Open Up Outdoors: Get outside daily—even for 10 minutes. Nature boosts mood and reduces mental fatigue. Join me with a quick energizer outdoors every day in May. That is my MO’vement challenge.
V – Visualize Victory: Start your day by visualizing a win—big or small. Set the tone for a positive mindset by power posing each morning in front of the mirror. Put your hands up in the air, make a letter “V” (for Victory) and shout out loud “I can do it”, “I will do it”, “I am (name) and I am strong!”
E – Engage Your Body: Move with purpose—dance, stretch, walk, or lift. Your brain loves variety and rhythm. Join a fitness class, get back into the gym to lift weights, try something new –a yoga class, Pilates class, take a golf, tennis or pickleball lesson. One of my favourite things to do is go for a walk while listening to a motivational podcast. What’s yours?
S – Stay Connected: Talk it out. Community and connection are key to emotional strength.
This Month’s Mantra:
💚 “Move Your Body, Light Your Mind.”
Let every step you take this month be a step toward clarity, courage, and calm.
As the season shifts, so can you. Let May be the month you realize the strength that’s been growing beneath the surface. Let’s keep tending to our inner gardens, together.
