As we step into February, I can’t help but feel the toll that January has taken—shorter days, cold weather, and a sluggish start to the year weighing me down. This year, it hit even harder, with a stubborn cold that just won’t let go. I know I’m not alone; so many people are battling the same seasonal slump, feeling their energy and motivation wane. The “February Blues” are real, but I refuse to let them win. That’s why I’m writing this blog as a personal note to myself—and you—because with the right fitness and wellness strategies, we can shake off the sluggishness, re-energize our bodies, and lift our spirits to keep moving forward.

Elevating 2025: Energy, Growth, and Becoming MO’re!

This year, my theme is Elevating 2025: Energy, Growth, and Becoming More, and February is the perfect time to embody this mindset. Elevation starts with movement, and movement is the key to keeping our energy high, our minds clear, and our spirits lifted. Let’s explore how fitness and wellness can help you beat the February Blues and thrive all month long.

  1. Move to Boost Your Mood

Exercise is one of the most powerful tools for fighting off seasonal slumps. Movement stimulates the release of endorphins—your body’s natural mood boosters—while reducing stress hormones like cortisol. Even if you’re not feeling motivated, simply committing to 10 minutes of movement at one time can create an immediate positive shift in your day. YES, this is possible! Here are a few ideas to keep your body in motion:

Stand up from your desk and take a quick movement break—your body will thank you.

Walk to the fridge, grab a refreshing glass of cold water, and take a few sips to rehydrate and re-energize. While you’re at it, step outside for a deep breath of fresh air. If you can, go for a brisk 10-minute walk up or down the street. Fresh air and natural sunlight help regulate mood and energy levels. The hardest part? Simply making that first move out of your chair—but once you do, you’ll feel the difference!

  2. Shake things up with a new workout!

Switching up your routine not only keeps things exciting but also challenges your body in fresh ways. If you’ve never tried strength training, Pilates, or a group fitness class, now is the perfect time to step out of your comfort zone and explore something new. And if you’ve set a big goal for 2025 that requires training, February is the month to get started. I’m right there with you—I’ve set a lofty goal to compete in HYROX this fall, and having a trainer to keep me accountable is getting me into the gym MO’re than I would on my own. Strength training is a must for me, and with Pilates becoming a hot new addition at my gym, I’m fired up to work on my core. And let’s not forget the power of group fitness—it’s more than just exercise; it’s group therapy! Social connections can boost motivation and accountability while making exercise more enjoyable. The energy, motivation, and support make all the difference. So, what will you try this month?

  3. Fuel Your Energy with Smart Nutrition

What you eat has a direct impact on how you feel, and February is the perfect time to dial in your nutrition to keep your energy levels high. Here are three simple but powerful strategies to fuel your body and mind:

    i. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Dehydration can zap your energy, cause brain fog, and leave you feeling sluggish. Keep a water bottle handy and sip throughout the day to stay refreshed and alert. ii. Nourish with energy-boosting foods. Fill your plate with whole, nutrient-dense foods like lean proteins, leafy greens, whole grains, and healthy fats. These foods provide sustained energy, keeping you fueled for whatever the day brings.
iii. Be mindful of sugar and processed foods. While they may offer a quick pick-me-up, they often lead to energy crashes that last much longer than the MO’ment. Instead, choose balanced meals and snacks that keep your energy steady and your motivation high.

  4. Prioritize Restorative Wellness Practices

Wellness isn’t just about movement—it’s about recovery, balance, and recharging both your body and mind. Incorporating restorative practices into your routine can make a world of difference in how you feel. Here are three ways to support your overall well-being:

    1. Prioritize quality sleep. Poor sleep can magnify fatigue, stress, and low moods. Set yourself up for better rest by creating a calming bedtime routine—dim the lights, limit screen time before bed, and aim for at least seven hours of deep, restorative sleep. Your mind and body will thank you.
    2. Embrace mindfulness and gratitude. Small moments of stillness can shift your focus and improve your overall outlook. Whether through meditation, journaling, or deep breathing, taking time to center yourself can work wonders. One practice I swear by—both personally and in my Saturday yoga classes—is the 3-Part Breath Exercise. It’s a powerful tool for easing anxiety and stress:
    A. Inhale through your nose for three counts.
    B. Hold your breath for six counts.
    C. Exhale slowly for nine counts.

Repeat this sequence 12 times, and you’ll notice your stress begin to soften as your nervous system shifts from fight-or-flight to a state of calm control. It’s simple, effective, and something you can do anytime, anywhere.

Taking care of yourself isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. Prioritize these small but powerful habits, and you’ll feel the difference in both body and mind!

Book a wellness retreat or getaway even if it is for work. Sometimes, a change of scenery and a fresh experience can reignite your energy and enthusiasm.

  5. Stay Inspired and Connected

One of the best ways to keep your motivation high is by surrounding yourself with inspiring individuals who uplift and energize you. This month, I’m excited to bring you an incredible conversation on A MO’ment with MO, where I’ll be joined by Suzelle Snowden, the founder and visionary CEO of Fit Bodies Inc. Suzelle’s passion for fitness travel and wellness experiences will leave you feeling motivated to explore new ways to elevate your career as a fitness and wellness professional and embrace growth in 2025.

In closing: Make February a Month of Energy and Growth

Instead of letting February slow you down, use this time to refocus, recharge, and recommit to your fitness and wellness journey. Small, consistent actions can lead to lasting change. So, let’s keep moving, nourishing our bodies, prioritizing self-care, and surrounding ourselves with inspiration.

Let’s elevate this February and make 2025 a year of boundless energy, personal growth, and becoming more!

Stay strong, stay inspired, and I’ll see you on A MO’ment with MO soon!
