Happy New Year and welcome to 2024!

I hope you have had a wonderful holiday season and a fabulous finish to 2023. I’m thankful for the time I spent with my family during the holidays (my husband Ken, or as he was called all holiday “Papa”, certainly knows how to bring Christmas cheer to our household!) and now, with the chaos (MO’stly positive) and energy of the New Year, I’m ready to launch into 2024!

This year I have my annual blog series to kick off this January 2024. My three words for 2024 are CARE, CHANGE and POWER. The 4-part blog series I’ve created for January 2024 is based on these three words. In the upcoming four weeks, I’ll be sharing how I use these words to generate ideas, insights, and practical steps for self-care, self-development, and self-empowerment. This series will set the foundation to help you create and experience the change you desire in 2024. I believe that 2024 is going to be a MO’numental year. Not only will I be sharing with you some of my tips to keep you MO’ving forward and making it your best year yet, but also some very cool events and activities I have planned for the first quarter of 2024. Stay tuned for four blogs this month with insights, inspiration, and a special end-of-the-month bonus gift!

Before we can dive into how to MO’ve your self-care, self-development, and self-empowerment forward we first need to get to the root of all these things — your WHY. For the last 3 years, I’ve started my New Year’s message with the importance and the power of knowing your WHY and am doing so again because it is so vitally important. Knowing your WHY creates greater alignment between your inner desires and outer actions in the world. It’s also a wonderful way to serve others and fully utilize your unique talents, leading to tremendous fulfillment. Discovering your WHY requires internal effort and self-reflection – and the New Year provides a great opportunity and a fresh start to undertake this process!

Once the inner work is accomplished, it’s time to align your WHY with outward action. As a fitness professional, I consider it vital to align my WHY with the latest fitness trends. Utilizing trends reports helps me tap into the collective wisdom of industry leaders, acting as a shortcut to what’s on the rise. The canfitpro Health and Fitness Trends 2024 report is a great tool for creating a business strategy and finding a career fit. It all starts with figuring out where your passion lies and how you wish to put your passion into action so that you can make a difference in the world.  If you are not sure of what your WHY is, start with passion.  Decide how you want to use your passion to create a desired outcome (impact) and you will then know your WHY.  Passion is like a superpower; gives you the energy to seek out the necessary knowledge, skills and MO’tivation to act.   Combining your passion with one or two of the upcoming trends is a powerful strategy for your career trajectory. As an example, here is my WHY statement: “I exist to MO’ve people and businesses forward by positively influencing change so that people are inspired to live their true purpose”.   My WHY statement has not changed in the last two years, even though I revisit the exercise above each year.  What does change is how I navigate the world knowing WHY.  My contribution and desired goals for how I wish to create impact changes as the needs of my community — the health and fitness industry — change and as my wellbeing needs change.

So, even if you already had your WHY statement, I encourage you to be open to revisiting and even doing this activity again. Your WHY does not stay the same for everyone, all the time. Our WHY evolves as we acquire knowledge and experience throughout our lives and careers. If this is your first time thinking about your WHY and constructing your WHY statement I am excited for you. Enjoy the journey of self-discovery!

Like our WHY, our methods and plans for supporting others in serving through our WHY (i.e. the WAY) are also subject to change. As an example, I discovered a new method to express my WHY through the podcast I launched last year called A MO’ment With Mo. This podcast has become a powerful new platform and way for me to connect with others to help them MO’ve themselves and their businesses forward. I’m thrilled to share that Season 2 is on its way in 2024 after a successful first year with 14 episodes in 2023 with Season 1. 

As my first episode in 2024, I am thrilled to have as my guest Meghan Jarvis, a fellow Canadian, who lives and works in the health and fitness industry down under in Australia. In this episode, Meghan and I discuss the canfitpro Health and Fitness Trends 2024 report findings and our thoughts on the future of fitness in 2024! 

I am also looking forward to releasing a MO’numental conversation with Canada’s only WHY Guy Gerry Visca and Angela Kontgen this month! Again, as my personal story illustrates, our WAY for realizing our WHY changes and this is where looking at trends reports can help you again. Seeing the latest trends can give you a fresh perspective on changing your WHY and a new direction and inspiration for HOW to live your WHY.

Having a WHY statement that taps into the passion, power, and energy of the new year, how do you think it will affect your life trajectory for the rest of 2024? As the author of one of my favourite children’s books writers Dr. Seuss says “Oh, the Places You’ll Go! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose”. In the upcoming week, set aside some time to reflect on, write, or revamp your WHY statement for 2024. It’s an excellent way to cultivate intention and MO’tivation for the New Year to steer the direction of your 2024!
